He first met Joan in West London in the 1970s, where she worked in a small bric-a-brac shop, according to ITV.<\/p>\n<p>He once recalled hovering around the store buying \u201ccountless objects\u201d just for the chance to see her again.<\/p>\n<p>Years later, he wrote that he had \u201cfell for Joan almost from the moment I saw her\u201d and quickly learned that the down-to-earth Scottish woman was not easily swayed by his usual charms.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18908\" src=\"https:\/\/readupdatednews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-1052307874-768x511-1-300x200.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/readupdatednews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-1052307874-768x511-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/readupdatednews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-1052307874-768x511-1.jpg 768w\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They eventually married in 1989 on Necker Island, the Caribbean escape Branson famously bought as a romantic gesture when they were only a couple of years into dating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were still in the early days of Virgin Records and I definitely did not have the cash to buy it \u2014 but try telling that to a fool in love!\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n<p>The couple went on to have three children: Holly, Sam, and Clare Sarah, who tragically passed away just four days after being born prematurely.<\/p>\n<p>A life lived quietly, but deeply<br \/>\nDespite spending decades beside one of the world\u2019s most recognizable entrepreneurs, Joan long avoided public attention. Branson once explained:<\/p>\n<p>\u201dFrom the beginning Joan was a very private person, and the over four decades we have been together she has remained so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She rarely gave interviews, in fact, according to Branson, she didn\u2019t participate in one until 2016 for a documentary about his ballooning adventures.<\/p>\n<p>Her final chapter<br \/>\nLady Joan was believed to be in good health when she celebrated her 80th birthday this summer. Branson shared a loving tribute at the time, reflecting on their decades together:<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThank you for being by my side through it all \u2013 the highs, the lows, and all those quiet, content and peaceful moments in between.
