Michelle Obama and George W. Bush have surprised many with their unexpected friendship.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview, Bush shared his surprise about how people reacted when he and Michelle Obama were seen hugging at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.<\/p>\n

Bush was taken aback by how shocked people were to see them together. “The American people were so surprised that Michelle Obama and I could be friends,” he said, pointing out that it shows how divided people can be in their thinking.<\/p>\n

The duo has shared several heartwarming moments. At Sen. John McCain\u2019s funeral in 2018, Bush passed a cough drop to Obama, and he did the same at his own father’s funeral a few months later. Obama explained that they often sit together at official events because of the seating rules for former presidents and their spouses.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Obama mentioned that Bush is her “partner in crime” at these gatherings, adding that he is “a wonderful man” and “a funny man.” When she spoke to Jenna Bush Hager, Bush\u2019s daughter, she talked about how they have managed to find common ground despite their different political views.<\/p>\n

Even though her husband, former President Barack Obama, often disagreed with Bush’s policies, she said, “Our values are the same. We disagree on policy but we don\u2019t disagree on humanity.”<\/p>\n

Bush’s new project highlights this shared humanity. His latest book, “Out Of Many, One: Portraits of America\u2019s Immigrants,” comes out Tuesday. It features 43 portraits of immigrants, each accompanied by a biographical essay written by Bush himself.<\/p>\n
